2018 Honorees: Deane and Dan Dubansky
Honorees
Hadassah Richmond is delighted to announce the Elinor Bloom Marshall Humanitarian Award will  be presented this year to long-time community leaders Deane and Dan Dubansky. The Dubanskys have spent their lives devoted to Jewish and secular causes.
Deane and Dan’s passion has been working, nurturing, and mentoring children of all ages, races, and ethnicities. In 2009, Dan began mentoring five boys and became involved with the Police Athletic Association (PAL) which strives to keep boys away from street influences through their many programs such as summer camps, school break activities, and weekend sports. Dan and Deane are honored to partner with PAL’s mission.
In 2011, Dan and Deane became grandparents to Teo, who was adopted by their children Candice and Ben from the For His Children Orphanage (FHC) in Quito, Ecuador. They are thankful to FHC for the loving care to Teo before he came to his forever family, and strive to help FHC continue their mission of providing a loving home for so many orphans.

No cause is closer to the Dubanskys hearts than the children of Swansboro Elementary School in Richmond, where they are known by all as “Mr. Dan” and “Mrs. Dan.” The boys are know as “Dan’s guys.” Deane and Dan have worked for eight years to enrich the students’ lives with experiences, places, and activities that they might otherwise never have seen or experienced.

“We’ve taken them to a sleepover writing camp in the Pennsylvania Mountains, summer day camps, museums, parks, football Dan Dubansky poses with some of his “Swansboro guys.” Contributed Photos Dan and Deane Dubansky have enriched the lives of many ‘guys’ at Swansboro
Elementary.  The "guys" participate in the Police Athletic League basketball
program through the efforts for Dan and Deane Dubansky. Dan Dubansky’s “guys” learn the sport of lacrosse. Deane Dubansky takes four Swansboro boys shopping for equipment. and lacrosse games, lacrosse lessons, football camp, nature walks and so much more. Dan’s guys joined the City of Richmond’s Police Athletic League’s lacrosse team and proudly wore new uniforms donated by a sponsor,” commented Deane.

The list of the Dubanskys donations of self, time, and resources to youth and their community is extensive. It is because of their passion and spirit that the Dubanskys have chosen that the money raised from this event go towards lifesaving newborn pediatric equipment at Hadassah Hospital, for use in treating such diseases as Cystic Fibrosis.
